A complete gold and garnet oval shaped finger ring of late medieval date, c. 1300-1500. The hoop flattens and widens towards the shoulders with a central ridge with a central ridge running along the length. The hoop is stretched and broken conducive with being caught and dragged by a plough which is the likely cause. The shoulders are decorated with filigree in the form of one large raised pellet in a raised surrounding band with smaller raised pellets surrounding indicating a 15th century date for the construction. Gold 14th century AD finger-ring with an inset cobalt-blue glass oval setting. The bezel has 7 convex settings to hold the stone and a decorated flower inscribed into an integral square plate on either side of the hoop. There is no makers mark and the construction would suggest the 14th or 15th century at the latest. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the metal by the British Museum's Scientific Research section indicated a surface composition of approximately 94-95% gold, 3-4% silver, the rest being copper. A rare 'Christogram' gold ring with a black-letter inscription in lower-case letters reading ihc engraved on a sub-oval bezel. The inscription means IESUS CHRISTOS SALVATOR (Jesus saviour of man). The ring is probably 15th century but could be earlier. In the Latin-speaking Christianity of Western Europe the most common Christogram is 'IHS' or 'IHC', derived from the first three letters of the Greek name for Jesus, Iota-eta-sigma. Gold ring of a yellow hue possibly Medieval 11th to 15th century AD. It is unlikely to be jewellery related and more likely to relate to the decoration of another object perhaps a dagger pommel ring. The ring cannot be securely dated and so has been classified as not treasure. The length is 28mm and the width 11mm.
