An incomplete copper-alloy medieval harness pendant with suspension mount. The pendant is shaped like an eagle, wings folded and head turned left, although is now heavily corroded obscuring much of the details. A suspension loop projects from the apex of the bird's head, positioned at a right-angle to it. This loop sits between two parallel loops projecting from the lower edge of the mount and all three are covered with iron corrosion suggesting that they were secured by an iron pin originally. Above the the main body of the mount is small and rounded with a single a…

An incomplete copper-alloy medieval cruciform harness pendant. The pendant is a small, rounded, equal-armed cross-shape with a small suspension loop projecting in the opposite plane from the centre of one arm. Its surface has a corroded brownish patina. Clark (1995, 67, fig.50, nos.67, 68 and 69) illustrates three cruciform pendants of different forms from excavations in London, one from a context dated c.AD 1270-c.1350, one from a context dated c.AD 1350-1400 and one from an undated context. Ashley (2002, fig.23, no.232) also illustrates a more elaboate, enamelled pendant of a s…

An elongated suspension loop projects at a right-angle to the plane of the pendant from the centre of the upper edge. It is slightly bent out of shape in profile and the surface of the metal is heavily corroded. An incomplete gilded copper-alloy medieval harness pendant frame. It is an rounded, quatrefoil loop shape with elaborately moulded inwards pointing chunky V-shapes positioned at each of the four joins between the lobes. The overall shape suggests that it was intended to accommodate a cruciform pendant (see PAS record F-A63AE3 for comparison). The outer face of each V-shape is decorated with a incised dot at its inner end and incised parallel lines at its outer end. A complete copper-alloy harness pendant of medieval date. It appears to have been sub-triangular with rounded corners originally, although is currently folded in half. Any decoration has been obscured by considerable corrosion. The remains of a suspension loop, positioned at a right-angle to the pendant, projects from the upper end of the object, its outer section now missing. The delicate construction and non-armorial design suggests a 12th or early 13th century date (Ashley 2002, 7, fig.7, nos.17 and 18).
