Object type: STRAP END
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete copper-alloy medieval forked spacer from a strap end. The spacer is U-shaped with a curved inner edge and angular outer edge. One end is longer than the other due to damage. Projecting from the centre of the lower edge is a long acorn-shaped knop with a collar around its base. Originally it would have sat between two plates, providing a gap for the strap to sit in. It survives in fair condition with a little corrosion.
Egan and Pritchard (1991, 24, fig.12) suggest a c.AD 1270-1450 date range for this form of strap end.
