A medieval lead spindle whorl or weight. The weight is flat, circular, and has a central hole measuring 11mm in diameter. The front of the weight bears the letters IhC (the first three letters of the name Jesus in Greek). The hole is placed so that it removes a large portion of the centre of the inscription. This might suggests that it is a reused item; however, the reverse appears to have once had a moulded inscription running around the central hole. While the letters are largely illegible, two reversed 'N's are visible. The item weighs 40.29g, has a diameter of 36mm, and thickness …

A medieval lead spindle whorl. It is biconical and has a large central hole. Both faces are decorated with what appears to be moulded pseudo-lettering separated by pellets. The letter 'A' is visible on one side, both the others are more obscure. Thickness: 13mm, Weight: 44g, Diameter: 30mm. Spindle whorls are very difficult to date, but decorated examples such as this one are usually considered to be Medieval. One side is decorated with a zig-zag line with a heart-shaped motif in each of the outer angles. No photograph of the other side was given.
