Object type: HARNESS PENDANT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Cruciform horse-harness pendant, with bulbous terminals to the arms, which project from a rectangular centre. The centre is decorated with diagonal lines from both angles forming criss-cross. The arm terminals appear to have been decorated, but they are too badly corroded to be interpreted. There is a suspension loop at the top of the pendant. Cruciform pendants may have been connected with clerics, although they may merely indicate private devotion.

Uniface coin weight. The marked side bears a crowned shield, the crown central point is a fleur-de-lys. The motifs in the shield are three fleur-de-lys' (2 + 1). There is evidence of lettering or lys design outside of the shield but not readable due to some surface flaking from the cast. It is probably a french ecu coin weight from the period 1422-1475. This coin was in use in England on a par with the four shillings up to 1525.
