Object type: RING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete cast copper-alloy circular ring, probably a harness ring, dating from the Medieval to Post-medieval period, about AD 1100 - 1700.
The sub-circular ring is hexagonal in cross-section and has a varying width across the frame. The object has a dark grey patina and there are visible filemarks. Measurements are; 26.6mm diameter, 20.6mm inetrnal diameter, 2.4mm thick and 2.7g.
Geake suggests that though the function of rings like this are typically undiagnostic, the cross-section indicates a medieval dating. See more at https://finds.org.uk/counties/findsrecordingg…
