A cast copper-alloy finger ring of probable Medieval date. It is missing its setting, but is otherwise complete. The hoop is oval shaped in section and expands to a sub-triangular bezel. There are three circular recesses within the oval bezel, presumably to hold either paste or a setting, the setting is missing.
This form of 'Stirrup-Shaped' finger ring is noted by Egan and Pritchard as being popular in England from the mid-12th century for several hundred years, although perhaps only fashionable until the mid-13th century (Egan and Pritchard, 1991: pp. 326-327). A similar example p…

A medieval silver-gilt finger-ring set with a clear stone (probably rock-crystal). The back of the hoop is cabled and the shoulders left plain apart from a central groove which widens into a spandrel occupied by a simple foliate motif. The bezel is raised and moulded into a pie-crust form to simulate the petals of a flower. The finger-ring is silver-gilt and dates from the late fifteenth or early sixteenth centuries.

A fragment of a medieval silver-gilt finger-ring. Only the bezel and a small section of the hoop survive. The bezel is circular, and conical in section with slightly concave sides. The stone is now missing. The gilding survives on the upper surfaces. Traces of engraved decoration survive on the hoop. Maximum length: 17.5mm. Diameter of the bezel: 12mm. The ring probably dates to the late 12th or 13th century.

A medieval gold finger-ring, of slightly stirrup-shaped form. The hoop, of D-shaped section, widens at the shoulders and thickens at the bezel. The stone is now missing from the oval-shaped setting. The ring is slightly distorted. Maximum diameter: 20mm. The ring probably dates to the 13th century.
