Medieval copper alloy buckle, dating from the mid-14th to the mid-15th century The buckle comprises an oval, lipped frame with a folded sheet plate. The buckle is near-complete, missing some of the pate and the end of the pin (with an overall, distorted length of 33.7mm and a weight of 2.7g). The oval frame (with a length of 17.8mm and a width of 19.1mm) is of trapezoidal section on the outside edge (2.9mm thick), becoming sub-rectangular on the sides. Back plate probably from a composite strap end with a forked spacer. The plate is flask-shaped, having a circular lower portion with a flat outside edge and a parallel-sided upper portion ending in a concave attachment edge. The face is plain and has two rivet holes near the attachment edge, with one pin still in place. The inner face of the plate shows the remnants of attachment of a forked spacer with a circular end. File marks are visible on the inner surface and there is the suggestion the strap end was tinned or silvered.

Small copper alloy strap end composed of two pieces of sheet copper alloy riveted with two pins (still intact) near the attachment edge. The strap end has parallel sides, with the outside edge tapering to a point. The attachment edge has a V-groove between the rivets on the front sheet, and is now plain elsewhere, any possible original decoration has been lost. The rear sheet is plain. On the Inside surface of both sheets near the outside edge is a relatively thick corrosion product, possibly suggesting the use of a spacer.
