Silver gilt medieval finger ring with applied quatrefoil bezel.  The hoop is undecorated and D-shaped in cross-section with the bezel soldered onto the butted join.  The bezel is formed from a silver square plate that has been soldered onto the top of the hoop.  The plate has been shaped into a four petalled quatrefoil flower and decorated so each lobe looks like a leaf with a central rib and oblique incised lines for the veins. Similar rings can be seen at SWYOR-708B31 and DOR-9156AA which has been attributed to the 13th century by Beverley Nenk. Compare also SOM-F8FE…

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy shield shaped mount. The face has the heraldic arms of a lion rampant, the surface is corroded and worn which has removed any surface inlay such as enamelling, gilding or white metal coating that could have been applied. The reverse has a single large (20mm long) rearward projecting stud that narrows to a fine point. Similar items are described as harness mounts and used to decorated hoarse leatherwork such as GLO-BB7345 or LANCUM-EDA01D. However, the size of the stud precludes this use and instead may have been mounted to a wooden item.

Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Circular copper alloy pedestal type seal matrix. This has a hexagonal handle projecting from the rear; unfortunately this has been truncated at its base resulting in the loss of most of the handle and the loop. The matrix has a circular shaped face that possibly depicts the head of a forward facing lion set within a square shield.  Surrounding this is a legend which corrosion has unfortunately rendered unreadable.
