A complete cast copper alloy angel coin weight, dating from the Medieval – Post Medieval period, dating from AD 1495 - 1649 (diameter: 16.5mm; thickness: 3mm; weight: 3.79g).
The weight is circular in plan and flat in section. The weight is decorated on one side only with a winged angel slaying a dragon. The angel is facing forwards with one knee bent to the right and wings spread out behind. The artefact is in a worn but fair condition.
An identical example is illustrated in Biggs, N, ‘Coin-Weights in England – Up to 1588’, plate 15, page 75, ref no 34.
