Medieval (c. AD1400-1450) strap fitting consisting of the sheet copper alloy plate, slightly curved along its length, with traces of a rivet in each of its four corners. In its centre is a 3.6mm diameter hole which is indented to form a bevel. Length 35.0mm, Width 18.0mm, Thickness 1.8mm, Mass 5.20g.
This plate may be compared with finds from London which came from contexts dated to c. AD1400-1450 (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, Fig. 123, No. 123 and Fig. 124).

Copper alloy Medieval (c. 1250-1400) swivel strap fitting. Fragment only consisting of the eye through which a stud passed to form the swivel, only the two stubs of the loop survive, one of which is marked by an oblique, inclsed line. The underside of the eye is recessed. Length 20.4mm, Width 7.6mm, Height 7.0mm, Mass 2.03g.

Medieval strap fitting, cast copper alloy, central domed boss flanked by two projections through each of which was a rivet hole, one rivet survives. Across the top of the dome are three, transverse grooves, the bands between them being notched. The underside of the boss is hollow cast. In London strap mount like this appear in late fourteenth-early fifteenth century contexts (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, 162). Length 14.2mm, Width 9.0mm, Height 3.8mm, Mass 1.07g.

Medieval bar mount from a strap or belt, Copper alloy, rectangular with a raised longitudinal band flanked by two grooves each of which contains two rows of impressed triangles conter set to give zig-zag lines. Through the plate is a 1.7mm diameter hole, which is not set on the centre line. Either side of this are two, integrally cast rivets, each 1.8mm in diameter x 2.5mm long, there ends expanded the secure them in place. Medieval strap fitting, cast copper alloy bar, D sectioned, the two ends expanded to form bosses through which are attachment holes. The central area is expanded to form a boss through which is a 4.5mm diameter hole. This bar can be compared an example from London which was found in a context dated to c. 1150-1200, (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, 213, Fig. 134, No. 1154). Medieval strap fitting, gilt, cast copper alloy, The fitting is in the form of a truncated pyramid, its top bearing a square defined by a raised rib. Each of the sides bears three ribs which curve down to meet a horizontal rib, these are all defined by gilding. On the underside of the fitting is an integrally cast attachment stud, 3.0mm diameter x 4.5mm long the end of which is expanded for attachment. A late Medieval date seems likely. Length 10.0mm, Width 10.0mm, Height 7.1mm, Thickness 0.8mm, Mass 0.85g.

Medieval strap fitting, copper alloy, rectangular plate with an 8.0 x 4.4mm opening down its length. This is flanked, on each side, by three longitudinal steps. On each of its ends is a projection which resembles a ragged-edged leaf through which is a 1.5mm diameter hole. The surfaces of the object are covered with tooling marks. In London fittings of this form have been dated to c. AD1400-1450 (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, 195-7, Fig. 123) Length 30.7mm Width 10.2mm, Thickness 3.0mm, Mass 2.54g.

Medieval bar mount strap fitting made from sheet copper alloy. Parallel sided with squared ends, the section consists of a 4.0mm wide longitudinal rib flanked by two grooves which in turn are flanked by narrow ribs bearing finely incised, angled lines. Through the centre is a 3.0mm diameter hole and, at each end of the back, is a 1.5mm diameter x 1.4mm long stud the ends of which have been hammered to expand them. Medieval decorative stud from a strap or belt, lozenge shaped, face gilt and bearing a raised eight lobed ring set on a diagonal cross. On the reverese is an 3.1mm long x 3.1mm diameter integrally cast stud. This off-set and has been expanded by hammering. Similar studs have been found in London in contexts dating to AD 1270-1450 (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 198, Fig. 125). Dimensions: 10.2mm x 10.0mm x 1.3mm thick, Mass 0.78g.

Bar shaped copper alloy strap fitting or mount, section flat, expanding to form oval panels at ends, from these extend spike-like projections. Through each end of the bar is the corroded remains of an iron rivet or nail. Some traces of gilding survive. While rather light for its role this object can be best paralleled by the suspension mounts illustrated by Clark (The Medieval Horse, 2004, Fig.52) one of which was dated to c. 1350-1400. Strap fitting/mount, sheet copper alloy, dished body in the form of a scallop shell, denticulate edge and marked with incised radial lines. On the top is a small, rounded projection with two lateral spurs. Two 1.5mm diameter rivet/nail holes. Length 21.2mm, Width 16.0mm, Height 3.1mm, Mass 1.05g Thickness (of sheet metal) 0.6mm. Egan and Pritchard (1991, 162) suggest late fourteenth early fifteenth century date for this type.

Strip of sheet metal 22.0 x 7.0mm x 0.8 thick, one end narrowed to encircle an 8.1mm diameter ring made from 1.2mm diameter wire, butt jointed. Through one end of the plate is an oval hole 3.5 x 1.5mm pushed through from one side. Not datable but a Medieval date seems likely.

Sheet copper alloy strap end representing the remains of an example of a type described by Egan and Pritchard (1991, 156-8, Fig. 103) as 'Shield shaped sheet plates with bar-mounts etc. at attachment edge'. It consists of a sheet metal plate, 0.6mm thick, with indented sides. Through it are two rivets 1.5mm diameter x 2.0mm long one of which secures a transverse bar 13.0mm long x 4.5mm wide x 2.2mm thick. On the underside of this bar is a central notch, 4.1mm wide x 1.0mm deep.
