Medieval rectangular buckle plate with caged decoration, sheet copper alloy with cast fittings. A most elaborate piece made up of a number of elements; a sheet metal backing plate one end of which has been scrolled around to form a tube in the middle of which is a notch into which the buckle pin was fitted. The back of this plate was tinned or silvered.
