Medieval rectangular buckle plate with caged decoration, sheet copper alloy with cast fittings. A most elaborate piece made up of a number of elements; a sheet metal backing plate one end of which has been scrolled around to form a tube in the middle of which is a notch into which the buckle pin was fitted. The back of this plate was tinned or silvered. Secured to the backing plate by four copper alloy rivet is a sheet metal plate bearing the figure of a standing animal, its head thrown back and its tail curved, and recurved over its back.
