Lead spindle whorl of medieval or post medieval date (c. AD 1066 - 1700). Domed in form with a circular base, slightly faceted sides and off-centre vertical circular perforation. The based exhibits a circumferential groove.
Spindle whorls can be difficult to date as, with some exceptions, the general form seems to have changed little over time. Spindle whorls of this form are generally assigned a medieval to post medieval date range.

Medieval lead biconical spindle whorl dating to the period c. AD 1100 - 1500. Biconical in form with a central circular perforation which exhibits traces of wear around the edges. Each surface exhibits moulded decoration in the form of a series of moulded zig zag lines with moulded pellets between.
Spindle whorls can be difficult to date due to the fact that their general form changed very little over time. However, Alberti (2017) comments that biconical spindle whorls are rare in the Roman period. Those examples which are decorated are more likely to be Medieval.

Medieval lead papal bulla of Alexander IV dating to the period c. AD 1254 - 1261. In excellent condition with a hard, but brittle surface patination preserving both sides. The obverse follows the conventional naming of the pope, reading ALE/XANDER/·PP·IIII·. The reverse preserves the depicting of SS Paul and Peter within pelleted aureoles and SPA SPE above, although the surface is a slightly more worn and one eye of St Paul looks slightly odd, as though it has been struck more heavily, thus looking "pop-eyed". Reverse sealed at 351° to the obverse, quite a loose sealing.
