A complete copper-alloy casket Key of Medieval date (AD 1150 - 1450). The key is small with an ovate cross section. A circular bow extends from one end of the stem with a circular perforation. The opposite end of the stem is flat with a projecting pointed spur. A flat bit projects from the underside of the stem at 90 degrees and has one rounded cleft in its upper edge. The seal is circular in plan and comprises two equal sized lead discs linked by a recurved rectangular tab. One face has a punched inscription reading I F. The other face has the punched initials O H. Length: 32.91mm, Width: 18.94mm, Thickness: 2.89mm, Weight: 6.6g The metal is cram in colour with a predominantly smooth patina. Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database: SUR-125445, DEV-74F04C and SUR-258314.
