Object type: JETTON
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: West Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete copper-alloy jetton, dating to the Late Medieval period (c.1400-1500) and probably of French origin. The obverse is decorated with a heraldic design comprising a square-topped shield, with a legend surrounding, though this appears to be nonsensical in nature. The reverse side has a cross fleury set within a tressure of four arches. The jetton has suffered some damage around the edges, that has resulted in some loss of material, particularly around the 6-o-clock point on the obverse.
