A Medieval to Post Medieval copper alloy gilded and enamelled mount dating from 13th-16th century. The mount is shield shaped, rectangular with lower corners rounded terminating in a lobe at the centre of the lower side, this is in the style of the Modern French form which appeared in the 16th century although Griffits (1989:3 fig 2c) writes that they are "often identified as fifteenth century, but in fact known from the thirteenth century onwards". A Medieval copper alloy cast punch probably for leather dating from the 14th-15th century. The die is lozenge shaped and has a 35.96mm integral tapering tang that would have fitted into a wooden handle, now missing. A Medieval bone tuning peg dating froom the 13th-15th century. The tuning peg has a circular sectioned shank with a perforation at one end, through which the string would have passed. At the opposite end the pin is broken the with the square head now missing. Similar tuning pegs are published in MacGregor (1985:147) and MacGregor, Mainman & Rogers (1999:1978) they note that a key would have fitted over the square end to tune instruments such as harps, lyres or fiddles.
