Description: The object is fragmentary surviving as a shank roughly D-shaped in cross-section. at one complete end is a large rectangular loop (now highly warped and squashed). A medieval or post-medieval wooden knife or other implement handle. The handle survives as two pieces of wood sandwiching the corroded remains of an iron tang between them. Each wooden handle section has three lines of small iron rivets evenly spread along there length, each parcelled on the other half. The central line of rivets likely holds the tang between the two sections of handle. Three complete copper-alloy pins of uncertain date. Pin 1 is a single piece pin with straight thin shank (1.23mm thick) and a twisted loop head (8.19mm wide). Pin 2 has a drawn shank (1.1mm thick) and seperately attatched domed pentagonal head (3.72mm thick). Pin 3 has a thick drawn shank (1.72mm thick) and a seperately attatched barrel shaped head (6.04mm diameter) decorated with crisscrossed lines forming a interlinked diamond or 'harlequin' pattern.
