A complete medieval copper alloy buckle with composite plate. The buckle frame is oval in shape, with the outer edge widening and forming a triangular point in the centre. The outer edges of the frame are bevelled, and the frame is triangular in cross section. The forked spacer is covered by a rectangular copper alloy sheet folded over. This measures 13.1mm by 14.4mm. It has a central notch close to the pin bar for the pin to sit in. At the attachment end there is rectangular recess with iron corrosion in. A complete copper alloy buckle with plate. The buckle frame is trapeziodal shaped, the outer edge is recessed slightly from the frame and measures 20.1mm in width, the plate bar is narrower at 17.1mm. The outer edge of the frame is bowed slightly, and there is a knop at each outer corner. The buckle is sub rectangular in cross section. The plate is formed of a copper alloy sheet that is wrapped round the plate bar, it is rectangular on the front measuring 20.8mm by 14.5mm. An incomplete medieval or post-medieval copper alloy double loop annular buckle, missing its pin. The buckle is decorated with moulded scalloping around the outer edge which is c.4.4mm wide. The moulded decoration resembles five flower petals. The central pin bar is narrower at 1.9mm and is sub triangular in cross section. The buckle has a brown green patina. The buckle measures 27.3mm in length, 24.8mm in width, and is 2.2mm thick. The buckle weighs 4.11g. The buckle is similar to Whitehead 1996, p.39 nos. 272 and 273, which he dates from c.1450-1550.

A medieval copper alloy buckle plate. The plate consists of a rectangular sheet of metal, folded widthways to attach to the buckle. The fold on the reverse of the plate is approximately half the length of the plate, measuring 12.3mm in length. A central rectangular slot has been cut out on both sides for the attachment. There is iron staining within this slot suggesting the buckle pin was made of iron. At the opposite end on the longer plate there is a rivet hole with the iron rivet still in situ. A medieval to post-medieval copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame, missing its pin. The loops are oval and thin rectangular shaped in cross-section. The frame is angled. On both loops there is a central notch for the missing pin. The pin bar is offset, narrowed and circular in cross section. There is no decoration on the frame. An incomplete copper-alloy medieval buckle with trapezoidal frame and integral plate. The frame has been folded over itself. The two outer corners of the frame have a rounded knop. The frame is oval in cross section and is 2.2mm thick. The frame is 18.9mm at the longer end. The plate is sub triangular in shape, at the frame end there is a circular hole which has abraded through at the frame in an old break. This would have originally held the pin, which is now missing. An incomplete Medieval copper alloy buckle plate dating from 1250-1450. The plate consists of a rectangular sheet of metal which would have folded over at one short aned to curl around the buckle; the plate is now broken along this edge. The plate is recessed for the pin. There is a central rivet hole at the other end of the plate, the rivet is missing. The frame is triangular in cross-section, being flat to the underside with an angled upper edge, and has a central bar rectangular in cross-section (1.1x3.3mm). The frame has no decoration. The outer edge has a central section between two transverse ribs, themselves flanked at either end by an angled knop and a central groove for the pin. The metal has a dark green patina. A Medieval to Post-Medieval (1350-1600) copper alloy double oval buckle frame, incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin and buckle plate. The frame of one loop has been bent out of shape. It measures 21.62x20.04x.3.61mm (the internal loops measure c.13.37x7.35mm) and weighs 1.76g. There is no decoration. There is some rusting on the central bar which may be from the missing pin. Examples of this type of buckle frame from London (Egan and Pritchard 1991 nos.331 to 342) date from the second half of the fourteenth to the second half of the fifteenth century, but as the form persist…

An incomplete Medieval (1200-1400) copper alloy oval buckle frame of Meols type 8, missing its plate. The buckle has an ornate outside edge consisting of a rectangular projection decorated with five knops moulded closely together. The buckle has a narrowed, offset bar with a c.6mm wide piece of sheet copper alloy curled around it. Around this is one end of the sheet copper alloy pin, cut to a point at the other end. It measures 15.19x12.12mm (internal 11.48x5.34mm), thickness 1.63mm and weighs 1.20g. The reverse is flat.
