A complete late Medieval to Post-Medieval Silver gilt finger ring. The ring has raised border on the exterior of the hoop and a mouldings pattern within that. The pattern consists of ‘H’s alternating with oval within borders of transverse raised lines. The inner face is plain with small indentations running along the circumference of the ring. The silver gilt surface presents small green areas of copper alloy corrosion both on the outer and inner side of the ring. The hoop is decorated with an incised saltire, with an angular, inwards pointing trilobed element in each angle. The bezel is rectangular with a lower part formed of a slightly hexagonal flat back and four sides that angle out then back in to create a collet to hold the stone. The ring comprises of a flat band of silver, with three circumferential ribs and the suggestion of a join, although this has been well finished and obscured by gilding.
