A Late Medieval (1400-1500) stone mortar, discovered in a house wall dating to the late 17th century (wall dated by Dorothy Treasure, Wiltshire Buildings Record). The width at the widest part is 53cm, the internal diameter of the bowl at the top is 34cm and the overall height is 29cm. It weighs 67.5 kg approximately. A fragment from a carved limestone effigy in the form of two small hands, palm to palm in an attitude of prayer, broken away below the wrist and probably Medieval/ Early Post-Medieval in date. They measure 129.55mm in length, 79.58mm in max.width and 66.46mm in max.thickness. They weigh in excess of 300g. Both hands are damaged just above the arm joint. the damage looks mostly ancient. Stone weight, medieval or post-medieval in date. The stone is grey in colour and rough to touch, but light in density. The weight is 94.2mm in length with one end wider than the other, 60.8mm and 41.4mm respectively. The shorter end is rounded. At its centre is a 18.3mm diameter hole, counter-sunk on one face. Both ends are pointed oval in section. The wider end is 22.8mm thick, the shorter 14.5mm thick. The object weighs 101.34g.
