An incomplete Medieval (1250-1400) copper alloy annular brooch missing its pin and its seven circular settings. It measures 18.68mm in diameter (internal 11.05mm) and weighs 2.5g.
The brooch frame is triangular in cross-section, being flat to the underside (with a constriction for the missing pin) and a sloping inside edge. At the top of the frame fourteen triangular grooves are cut at regular intervals, creating turrets or collets between. The seven empty holes (c.2.5mm in diameter, c.1.5mm deep) for the settings are arranged equidistantly around this edge. The outside edge is also…

An incomplete Medieval (1200-1400) copper alloy annular brooch frame with constriction for the missing (iron) pin. It measures 26.53mm in diameter (internal 20.55mm) and weighs 2.45g.
The frame is slightly angled outwards on the underside. To the upper side it is decorated with five equi-distant transverse ridges. Where the sixth should be the frame is constricted with a patch of iron corrosion.
Read (2001, p.102) dates annular brooches with a narrowed frame for restricting the pin to the 13th and 14th century.

A Medieval (1250-1400) copper alloy annular brooch with six turrets or collets (three of which are missing their settings). The brooch measures 41.82mm in diameter (internal 20.50mm) and weighs 10.76g.
The brooch frame is circular in shape and set with six equidistant turrets. Between each turret is a brambled boss, the frame curving on the side edge, decorated with tiny punched annulets. Projecting from each is a collared stylized fleur-de-lis. In one of these brambled bosses is a piercing for the intact wire pin, c.27mm in length.
The turrets stand max.6.7mm high and three carr…

An incomplete Medieval (1200-1400) copper alloy annular brooch, slightly squashed and missing its pin. It measures 27.33x22.88mm 'in diameter' (internal 22.23x19.19mm) and weighs 2.04g.
The brooch is missing almost all its original patina, except for a small amount opposite the 2.71x0.90mm constriction, where presumably the pin would have sat. To one side of this, and up to the constriction, the cross-section is roughly circular. The other side of the brooch has a lozenge-shaped cross-section which has been twisted in a cable pattern and within each twist is a line of granules.

Medieval copper alloy annular brooch with two brambled bosses and two colletts, alternatively placed. The collett-settings are missing but probably contained a stone or paste originally.
The brooch is c.43mm in diameter and weighs 11.00g. The two collets are c.10 and 11mm high and are bent slightly outwards. The frame itself is triangular in section, being flat on the underside. The wire pin is attached to the frame through a piercing in one of the brambled bosses.

Medieval copper alloy oval-framed annular brooch complete with bent sheet pin and missing one of its collet settings. The frame measures 22.5x30.7 (internal 15x17.8mm) and weighs 3.63g with pin.
The brooch is unusual in that it has two projections extending about 45° from the horizontal, outwards from the frame. Two are either side of the constriction for the pin and two either side of the notch for the pin. The projections are decorated with two pairs of triangular grooves on either side.
At the centre of the two curving arms between these projections is a single circular colle…

Incomplete medieval copper alloy annular brooch, missing the tip of its pin. It is 36.4x35mm in diameter (internal hole 25mm diameter), D-shaped in section and flat on the underside. The pin is flat in section.
The curved part of the brooch has been drilled with holes 2mm in diameter, one then a pair all the way around so the brooch is symmetrical along the pin line. There is a slight distance of undrilled brooch either side of the constriction for the pin. Egan and Pritchard, 1991, comment that drilled decoration on brooches does not necessarily suggest collets for stones or enamel…

The brooch is 30.3mm in diameter (internal 21mm) and stands 4.2mm high, from the underside to the top of the collets.
There are six collets in total, measuring c.5-6mm in diameter. Four show traces of a white enamel, one of which is in a bad state of decay and appears vitrified.
Interspaced with the collets is an area the same size (5-6mm in length) with a pronounced outwards curve on the outside edge, where it is also thicker (2.2mm), sloping down to the inside edge where it is c.1mm th…

The circular frame, which is min.2.83mm wide and max.5.27mm, is flat and 1.36mm thick. The pin, which is flat on the underside but slightly faceted on the other side (flattened mid-rib and sloping sides), makes a complete loop around the centre of one 'lobe' of the frame. Incomplete copper alloy annular brooch missing its pin. It is rather flat, though D-shaped in section, the front face being rounded. The edges are also slightly rounded.

The brooch is not entirely round, and measures 21.4x20.2x2.8mm. (Internal 14.3x13.5mm). It weighs 2.84g.
