Medieval copper alloy harness pendant suspension mount and harness pendant of unusual form. The length of both together is 36mm and they weigh 6.27g. The mount has an integral rivet to the reverse, square in section (3x3.2mm) and 6mm long. The mount has a slightly curved top and is 8.7mm wide. This narrows over 11.5mm to 6.7mm wide where it is separated from the arms holding the axis bar (8.3mm wide) by a 1.5mm wide rib. Iron staining on the arms suggests an iron axis bar. The pendant itself measures 22.4mm in length and swings freely. The neck of the pendant is 14mm long and c.2…

Medieval copper alloy gilt horse harness pendant and pendant suspension mount set. Both take the form of a scallop shell, although both are inverted - that is, the U-shaped crenellated edge faces downwards. The pendant suspension mount is concave and hollow, with a central peircing for a rivet 2mm in diameter. Radiating grooves create seven ribs with crenellated edges. Projecting away from this edge is the stem of the shell, decorated with three vertical ribs. Extending either side of the central, rather wider, rib are the slightly splayed arms which are bent back on themselves (to th…

Medieval copper alloy heraldic horse harness pendant with blue enamel and traces of gilding, lozengy Or and azure. It measures 37.87x23.43x3.24mm, and weighs 10.74g. The loop is turned through 90°. This heraldic device belongs to Thomas de Warbleton of Warbleton and Sherfield (Sussex) about the middle of the 13th century.
