Probably incomplete iron chain link in state of corrosion. The chain consists of two large oval links c.65x30mm. These are joined by three smaller links c.38x23mm all of which have corroded to each other or to the larger link that has another two links joining it (and corroded to it) in the opposite direction to the three. The only link that moves freely is the large one only joined to a single link. Possibly late medieval, but more likely to be post medieval, or later. Chains like this were used in wells or cooking, but equally this example may have has some other use. Corroded length…
