Fragment of a medieval copper alloy processional cross, comprising a heavily cast and crudely engraved robed figurine of the Virgin, standing on a rectangular-sectioned flaring plinth with ribbed mouldings, and with a fragment of the flat-sectioned supporting arm at the base. MED Papal bulla or lead seal, of Honorius III (1216-27), in excellent condition. The identification is easy as the letters survive in such excellent condition. The obverse even has lines indicating the edge of the seal matrix where the lead was squeezed during sealing. The reverse is also in excellent condition with both the heads of Peter and Paul quite crisp, although the pelleting around the outer edge is slightly damaged at the top.
