An incomplete silver and gilt medieval crucifix. The crucifix is missing the ends of its arms and an attachment loop. The obverse is decorated with a moulded depiction of Christ, which is fairly crude. The figure is also quite worn so many of the details are worn away. Behind the figure's head is a rectangular projection. His arms are stretch out to either side but are truncated due to the breaks on each arm of the cross. A copper alloy mount or stud, of medieval or post-medieval date (c. 1400-1600). The object is formed from a thin, domed, oval-shaped piece of sheet copper alloy. The sides are bent backwards more than the rest of the edge, but whether this is from compression in the soil or by design is uncertain. The object has a scalloped edge and is decorated on the front with a central pellet and twelve grooves radiating out from the pellet. The grooves divide the object into twelve petals and give the object the appearance of a flower. The reverse is concave, but is mostly filled with iron corros…
