A complete copper-alloy dagger chape of Medieval to Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1300 – 1700. The chape is made from a single piece of copper alloy sheet which has been cut and rolled to join at an overlapping seam along the reverse. The closed end is cut into four triangular pieces which are curved round to form the terminal. A separate rectangular strip of copper-alloy is present around the open end of the chape. The upper surface is decorated with a horizontal band of pellets to one end and a central vertical band of pellets extending from it. The vertical band is flanked by further pellets. This likely represents part of the mitre. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The metal has a light white/brown patina and is worn.
