An incomplete copper alloy possible zoomorphic handle, terminal or mount of Iron Age to Roman date.  The object is comprised of a thin, cast copper alloy cylinder which frames a hollow section filled by a space before a short, corroded iron cylinder in the very centre. This outer cylinder is now warped (slightly flattened) and broken in a rough break at one end. At the other end, the cylinder is decorated along its terminal circumference with a narrow linear moulding before the object narrows to a thin, double-ridged waist before a wider cast terminal in the form of a b…

A Late Iron Age copper-alloy moustache-shaped object, probably dating to the period 300BC - AD100. The object is composed by two bulbous and pointy halves connected by a recessed band, hollow inside with raised lugs and central slot. The external surface is decorated with incised and parallel lines rising from the base up to the two pointy ends. The object measures 24.14mm in length, 20.96mm in width, 6.90mm in thick and weights 13.50g. Similar objects are illustrated in Evans (1881) "Ancient Bronze Implements of Great Britain" and are described as chapes (pp. 305, fig. 372)…

A gold unidentified object, possibly a fragment of a torc or bracelet, of probable Iron Age date (c. 150-50 BC). Description: The object is comprised of two wires, sub-circular in cross-section, twisted together. The wires are roughly and irregularly facetted along their length, suggesting they were forged out from a square section rod before being hammered into a more circular cross-section. In many places, hammer marks and striations are visible. Both ends show signs of having been chiselled, suggesting that the original object was deliberately broken up. The fragment itself is…

A near complete, copper alloy object, possibly a strap slide of likely late Iron Age to early Roman date (c. 50 BC - AD 50). The object has a flat, circular head that is decorated on the outer face. The decoration has a solid border around the edge, within which there are eight triangular cells around the edge that point towards a central circular cell, all of which are inlaid with a red enamel. The rest of the field forms a high-relief eight pointed star. On the reverse, there are three connected loops. The loops are trapezoidal in plan and sub-rectangular in profile, with two s…

Copper alloy unidentified object. Cast sub-cylindrical object with slightly flared and flanged ends which partially close an internal cavity and lacking a wall for about one quarter of its circumference, probably as an original feature rather than damage. The outer side bears symmetrical D-shaped moulded features with a triangular field between them on either side, with grooves separating these mouldings from the ends. A linear border also appears along one side of the gap in the wall. The form recalls the sheathing of objects of other materials with copper alloy though there is no rus…

A copper alloy incomplete unidentified object, possibly of Iron Age date, perhaps part of a harness fitting or tankard handle. It is of rectangular cross section, broken at both ends. One end is triangular, with a a V shaped indentation in from the break. The other end is rectangular (wider than the rest of the plate) and is broken across one or two circular holes. The front is decorated with incised lines along both prongs of the triangular area, which cross at the point of the triangle in the middle of the plate. The rectangular area has a similar line along the surviving edge. …

A  fragment of copper alloy with a design on one surface. The design seems to be part of the reverse of a stater of the British Iron Age, South Western uninscribed (Durotrigian) type. It comprises a group of circular recesses and two crescent-shaped recesses below. This would be equivalent to the raised pellet and two raised crescents seen on such staters (the crescents being the belly of a stylised horse. This may be part of a coin die for manufacturing staters, or it could also be an impression of such a coin, perhaps to cast copies in a mould. Date: Possibly Late Iron Age - c. …

A late Iron Age (c.100 BC to c.100 AD) incomplete or fragment of a copper-alloy cast artefact. The artefact is sub-rectangular with the longer, upper edge being broken. This break is not recent. The lower and side edges are curved towards the reverse terminating with a flat edge as if the object butted against a flat surface. The curvature of the sides gives the object a slight bulbous appearance with a hollow, undecorated reverse. The surface of the reverse is rough and a well-developed patina has not been created unlike the outer face. The outer face of the artefact is deco…

FURTHER FRAGMENTS OF THIS HAVE BEEN FOUND. WAITING FOR THEIR HAND-IN TO RECORD AS A WHOLE. Fragmented copper alloy and enamel Iron age object. The segment to hand consists of a flat four sided plate the longest side of which has broken across three linearly aligned bordered circular cells, that contain the remains of red enamel. It is not possible to determine any hint of the original shape from this fragment as all edges are degraded and eroded making any original edge indistinguishable from a broken one. This molten droplet of heavy yellow metal was reported as possible Treasure, because it was found in the vicinity of other finds of molten gold/electrum which might be connected with the production of Iron Age gold torcs or other objects. It was sent to the British Museum for scientific analysis which demonstrated the droplet was made of copper alloy.

Unidentified object made from copper alloy, of uncertain date but possibly Iron Age or Roman. It appears to have been cast, but may have been hammered together from a rod of sub-circular or sub-rectangular cross-section. If so, the rod was bent in half, with a rounded loop at the bend (3.3mm internal diameter). The two halves then join (with a groove between them) before separating again. One prong is broken off after the fork, but the other diverges in a straight line, then begins to curve before a break. Both breaks are very worn. The resulting object measures 33mm from the loop…

An incomplete cast copper alloy unidentified object of Late Iron Age or early Roman date (c. 100 BC - AD 120). The object has an openwork crescentic terminal with rounded edges which tapers into a circular base. The underneath of the base has iron corrosion. The object may be a linch pin terminal for a cart or chariot (see WMID-86FE85 and KENT-AA9995 for comparison), but it seems small for that function. It may be a key terminal or a furntiure fitting, although no parallels have been found.
