Copper alloy brooch fragment, complex rivetted (or Leontomorphe) variant of the Rosette type. Upper half only, missing spring, pin and most of the centre plate. The spring cover is undecorated; an irregular hole at the junction of bow and spring cover is probably a casting fault. The lion-derived shape on the upper bow is very stylised in shape but has rows of punched arcs on the end, below the projections, and possible traces of more arcs on the projections. Behind the upper bow there are two thicknesses of sheet metal (which formed the disc) and the stub of the thicker foot piece, wi…

Copper alloy brooch, Colchester type. Complete except for damage to the catchplate; some corrosion, cleaned. The spring has ten coils; there is a break between the first and second coils to the right of the pin (ie close to where the pin joins the base of the wings) but the rest appears original rather than replacement. There is a separate axis bar through the spring. The flat wings have a single groove at each terminal, and there is a single groove at the end of the front facing chord hook. The bow is almost rectangular in section at the top but becomes circular and tapers to a blunt …

Surviving width 10.5mm, surviving length (straightened) c. 60mm.
