A complete, miniature cast copper-alloy Roman colchester brooch. The brooch has no wings and at the head has an integrally cast spring chord and spring of eight coils that extends to a cylindrical pin with a sharp tapering point. The spring is held in place by an integrally cast hook. This is flat, rectangular in form and folds forward on to the head of the brooch where it has moulded decoration comprising incised transverse grooves separated by a concave moulding, beneath which are double moulded vertical grooves. It has short flat wings, 8.42mm wide, with an incomplete hook coming from the body and bent back toward the bow. The bow has a round front and faceted back, and tapers to a point. The brooch measures 48.18mm in length and weighs 3.39g. A similar,though complete, example is illustrated from Hacheston(Blagg et al 2004, no.63)dated to the early part of the first century AD.
