A near complete, copper alloy object, possibly a strap slide of likely late Iron Age to early Roman date (c. 50 BC - AD 50). The object has a flat, circular head that is decorated on the outer face. The decoration has a solid border around the edge, within which there are eight triangular cells around the edge that point towards a central circular cell, all of which are inlaid with a red enamel. The rest of the field forms a high-relief eight pointed star. On the reverse, there are three connected loops. The loops are trapezoidal in plan and sub-rectangular in profile, with two s…

Iron Age (100 BC to AD 100) unidentifiable fitting or mount: The object is rectangular with a V-shaped slot at one terminal, forming two arms. The terminal of these arms are perforated and has traces of an iron axis bar. The other terminal has a sub-oval perforation. In profile the object is curved, being convex on the outer face and concave on the interior. The exterior face is decorated with a low-relief sub-rectangular panel with concave terminals. There is a high-relief leave obliquely angled in the panel with traces of red enamel on one side and white enamel on the other. Either…

Iron Age to Roman (800 BC to AD 400) unidentified artefact: The copper alloy fragment has been cast and is a sub-oval with abraded edges. The edges are abraded and may not be the original edge as the patina does not cover them. One surface has a sub-oval indentation and the surface is slightly convex. Both surfaces has a mid green-brown heavy patina. The artefact measures 41.8mm long, 22.18mm wide, 8.33mm thick and weighs 25.52g. The function of the artefact is not known, nor is the date, but the heavy patination suggests it is of Iron Age or Roman date.

A cast copper alloy late Iron Age fragment of an unidentified object. In plan the object is a sub rectangle with one narrow edge being slightly curved, and only a small portion of this edge is the original edge. This terminal, in profile tapers to a narrow, blunt edge. The opposite narrow terminal is also an original edge, and this terminal is sub-square in section. The lower edge is an original edge and is triangular in profile. The upper long edge is a broken edge, and has the remains of a linear socket in profile. The break is possibly quite recent. The upper face of the object has…

A incomplete cast copper-alloy unidentified object on possible Iron Age or Roman date. It has been suggested that this could be an incomplete linch pin. The artefact has a sub square central section with two curved protrusions which turn upwards and taper to a point. There are two vertical parallel incisions which delineate the central boss from the two protrusions. The artefact is incomplete, there is an old break at the tip. The buckle is 14.15mm in length, 29.05mm wide, 4.85mm thick and weighs 5.4 grams.

An unidentified cast copper object. The fragment, presuming it is a fragment of an object, is oval in section and a curved rod in plan. Each terminal is broken, and these are not recent breaks. The surface has a well developed dark green patina. It measures 21.13mm long, 7.87mm wide and 3.73mm thick. It weighs 1.8g. The identification and date of the object is uncertain, the size and curvature may suggest something like a penannular or annular brooch or buckle. The patina suggest it probably date to the Medieval period or before.

An fragment of a possible cast copper-alloy unidentified object. It is rectangular in plan, with one broken terminal. This break is recent. The opposite terminal tapers and forms a scroll with a circular perforation. The scroll is decorated with fine radiating grooves. The exterior of the object is decorated with a bordering ridge and the central portion is convex in profile. The central portion is decorated with a block of fine almost vertical inscribed grooves towards the original terminal. In profile the object is curved and has been slightly bent in the centre which has damaged the…

A cast copper alloy unidentified object, which may be a fragment or an incomplete object. It has an oval body and a semi-circular sectioned protrusion at one edge of the body. The body is an oval in plan, but has heavily abraded edges. The upper surface of the body is decorated with a central high-relief pellet which has two concentric cells around it. The small cell is filled with shiny blue enamel. The larger concentric cell has the remains of red enamel. The reverse of the body is corroded and is curved. The curvature continues through the protrusion on the reverse. The protrusion h…

A cast copper alloy unidentified object. The object is either a fragment of a larger object or is incomplete. The object is moulded, and is similar to the head, beak and body of a duck, however this is probably not intentional. The beak terminates with a blunt point and is oval in section. The head is seated on the body, with the neck being defined by simplistic moulding. The head is just a rounded knop. Around the head is a band of ‘pecked’ decoration, which is a band of irregular low-relief oval stamps. Below the beak on the body there is a horizontal groove with irregular stampe…

The object is made from cast copper alloy. It is formed by a curved oval section rod. One terminal is broken, it is abraded, and rounded and does not have any patina formed. The other terminal is also rounded and abraded, but there is a small patch of brown patina, which matches the majority of the surface. In the outer surface towards this terminal is a decorative integral bulbous knop which has irregular radiating linear grooves from its apex. The surface of the object is mainly covered with a heavy brown coloured patina. The object measures 32.09mm long, 13.55mm wide and 9.44mm thic…

The function of the object is not known, but the well developed shiny brown patina perhaps suggests an Iron Age or Roman date. It is made from cast copper alloy. In plan the object is circular, however one of the edges is abraded, thereby distorting the overall shape. There is a large circular hole in the centre. Bordering this hole, on both faces there is a lip. In the surfaces surrounding the hole there are slight radiating striations. Around the majority of the outer edge of the object there is another lip, however the lip develops into a complete surface forming a side edge w…

In plan the object is a sub-triangular shape, however the upper corner is the only original edge. This corner has a small, possible, rivet hole. The object is a plate of copper alloy which is slightly concave. The concave surface has a central iron protrusion surrounded by heavy iron corrosion and staining. Whether the iron protrusion is intentional or not is diffcult to tell from observation. On the convex surface, in the centre, there is a sub-circular sectioned, ientral stud. The stud, at the join of the plate, is sub-square in section. The stud has mutlti faceted sides. At …
