A sherd from the body of a large late Iron Age to early Roman ceramic earthenware vessel. A thick-walled vessel with a very hard, coarse fabric tempered with spare poorly sorted white quartz (<2mm) and frequent red clay-like pellets (grog?). Dark brown core and surfaces with smooth outer face decorated with a series of parallel grooves. It is too small in size to determine the original form of the vessel.  With thanks to Carlotta Marchetto of OAE for the identification help.  Length: 61.93mm, width: 49.16mm, thickness: 13.65mm, weight: 44.10g

A body sherd of an incomplete Late Bronze Age to Iron Age ceramic vessel dating to circa 1000 BC-AD 43. It is broadly square-shaped in plan with uneven edges. The fabric is hard and coarse with moderate sub-angular white stone, <2.5mm. Amongst this are moderately distributed shell inclusions, <1mm. The exterior fabric is an oxidised light orange while the interior fabric is reduced dark grey. Length: 21.1mm; Width:18.9mm; Thickness: 8.9mm; Weight: 3.55g.

A sherd of a late Iron Age to early Roman earthenware vessel. The sherd comes from the rim of the vessel, which is straight with a groove running below is across the outer face. The fabric is hard and coarse, tempered with poorly sorted rounded quartz (<3mm). The core is a buff colour and both surface dark grey with oxidised reddish patches on the outer face. Matthew Brudenell (pers. com.) suggests that the sherd is likely to be of very late Iron Age or early Roman date. Length: 46.94mm, width: 39.38mm, thickness: 10.50mm, weight: 24.96g

A large and slightly abraded body sherd originating from a large wheel-thrown cooking vessel of probable Late Iron Age to Roman date, c. 100 BC-100 AD. The sherd is a blackish grey colour and extremely thick, demonstrating inclusions of grog and apparent intermixed organic temper. Its inner face demonstrates fairly prominent rilling marks from the manufacturing process, while the outer surface has been decorated with a 'combed' design in three distinct courses. A somewhat abraded rim sherd originating from a vessel of possible Late Iron Age date, c. 150 BC-50 AD. Its outer fabric demonstrates a deep reddish brown colour with a brownish grey porus interior. The outer surface of the sherd demonstrates apparent frequent inclusions of organic and possibly grog temper. The rim is rounded and heavily everted. Preserved in abraded condition, it survives to a length of 27.07mm, 52.93mm wide, and 19.3mm thick at the midpoint of the rim. It weighs 31.03g.

An abraded ceramic rim-sherd originating from a probable wheel-thrown high storage jar of late Iron Age date, c. 100 BC-50 AD. It is a rough brown colour on its outer surface, while the inner fabric is a more oxidised grey colour and rather porous. Medium to large sized chunks of burnt flint and quartz temper are visible in the fabric. The rim is heavily everted. Preserved in fair condition, it survives to a length of 26.5mm and a width of 29.97mm, while the rim is c. 15.11mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 20.9g.

A rim sherd from a pottery vessel of probable later Iron Age to Roman date. It has a hard and gritty black fabric, with some flint inclusions and dark brown to black surfaces. A small fragment of the rim survives, suggesting it was an open vessel, possibly a bowl. The entire fragment measures 30.71mm in length, 33.41mm in width, 6.65mm in thickness, and 7.54g in weight.
