A complete copper-alloy late Iron Age to Roman openwork mount or strap fitting. The object is discoidal in shape. There are four inwards pointing sub-triangular holes arranged at regular intervals behind the outer edge, each with concave sides and a convex outer edge. The inner edges of these create four petal-like solid shapes between them, the inner end of each joining a solid circle in the centre of the object. The outer face of this circle is recessed and decorated with two raised annulets each with a deep depression in its centre. The outer face of each petal is dec…

An incomplete copper-alloy Iron Age to Roman probable mount, dating to 100 BC - AD 100. It consists of a trefoil plate, which has an incomplete lug at this back; the lug is rectangular in cross-section and might have been pierced. The front of the mount has a moulded decoration consisting of three adjoining circles, which have a raised border and an oval shallow recess at the centre. The field inside the circles is pitted and worn and it might house an enamel inlay. The edges of the plate are damaged and the surfaces are abraded. A fragment of a copper alloy and red glass inlaid Iron Age object, perhaps a mount. The fragment has broken in a circular pattern following the line of an inwards spiralling groove on its outer face with a two small irregularly shaped fragment attached to the outer edge. The groove encircles the fragment and then spirals inwards culminating in an expanded lobe with a recessed circle to one side of it in the centre of the outer face. The groove, its terminal lobe and the circle are all filled with red glass, although this is missing in places within the groove. The breaks remain fairly…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, probably a mount or escutcheon perhaps from the rim or handle of a copper-alloy vessel of Iron Age date. It has an incomplete sub-circular plate that is D-shaped in section with flat back face and moulded front face, missing one end (base?) due to old breaks. At the top(?) extends an integral but incomplete lug that is rectangular in form and may originally have been cylindrical or tubular. An incomplete cast copper-alloy of uncertain form, possibly a mount, escutcheon or similar decorative object and perhaps of Iron Age date. The surviving fragment is roughly disc-shaped with a slightly dome-shaped section, one third of the disc now missing due to old breaks. The back face appears to contain the remains of an added grey metal, probably a solder of some kind, and this may hint at it having originally been mounted onto a larger object. The slightly dome-shaped front face is poorly preserved but does retain traces of decorative elements. This includes the remains of a brig…

A cast copper alloy object, possibly a mount, of probable Iron Age date. It has a large disc shaped plate that has a flat back with slightly domed front, and has suffered from post-depositional damage to one side. At the top(?) of the plate is a flat, integral rectangular projection, perhaps the remains of a lug, shaft or similar to enable attachment to other objects. Its form remains uncertain, however, as it terminates in old breaks. The front face of the disc has moulded copper alloy decoration with enamel work contained within the recessed fields surrounding it. This comprises …

a probable late Iron Age mount or stud. It is a flat disc, 17.4mm in diameter, 3.47mm in thickness and weighing 3.8g. The upper surface is decorated with an asymetric pattern, including circles and a pelta shape, creating cells which would have been enamelled. The underside is plain and abraided. There is no sign of how this mount would have been attached, and no indication of solder. It is possible it may have been glued in some way. Examples of decorative studs of this period are known, for example from Ousden (SF-6C83F7). An example illustrated from Jope, 2000 (fig.295,k, from …

A copper-alloy fragment of a probable Iron Age strap fitting or mount, perhaps most likely to have functioned as a harness mount.
