Description: Two aurei of Augustus found in the same area as six other coins recovered previously (2017T827, NMS-297275) and representing an addendum to that group. Each carries a peck mark on the obverse, similar to the peck marks noted on the other coins. The pecking would have been carried out to check that the coins were of gold and not plated forgeries.
Date: The lack of any coins of Tiberius implies that this hoard was assembled in the early 1st century AD, probably in the first two decades of the century, in the late Iron Age, and well before the Roman Invasion of AD43. Late Ir…

A coin hoard comprising 44 Iron Age staters of the 'Norfolk Wolf' Uninscribed Icenian JB type. These were found scattered in what appear to have been two groups over a relatively small area, the first group in November 2012 and the second in ?March 2013. If two hoards were concealed, however, these must surely be two part of one main deposit; the two groups of coins share die-links as well as being of the same type.
All of the South Norfolk coins are struck from the same rather pale debased gold, implying a date of production some years after the beginning of the Norfolk Wolf serie…

A disc of quite pale gold. Although this is a somewhat enigmatic object it appears most likely that it represents a blank for an Iron Age stater. The weight would be most consistent with a 'Norfolk Wolf' type. Probably mid-late first century BC.

Broad period: IRON AGE

A piece of gold wire made from four strands twisted.
The wire was made from 4 smaller wires (diameter c. 2.4 mm) twisted together in a clockwise spiral giving an overall diameter for the twisted wire of 5 mm. The wire piece weighs 7.24g and is 20mm long (unstraightened). The fragment appears to have been cut from a larger piece of wire at one end, although the other end appears to be a break. Analysis shows these wires are made of over 80% gold.
