The head of a heavily worn copper-alloy hafted object, probably a hammer or mattock head of uncertain date (see discussion). Description: The object is roughly rectangular in plan narrow towards one end. The narrow end is thicker and is squarish in cross-section (possibly a bell/face hammer end) while the wider end is thinner and more rectangular in cross section (blade/mattock end?). There is a roughly circular hole through the body of the head likely the eye for hafting the tool to a handle. An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age Nauheim derivative brooch. Hull Type 10-11.1st century AD. The brooch has been distorted with the remains two coils of the spring pushed forward in front of the bow and the pin twisted out of shape. The bow is decorated with a straight groove running down the center. The foot and catch plate are missing by an old break. A similar example can be seen on the database: LEIC-A9A534
