Cast copper-alloy toggle, 35 mm long and oval in section (11 x 8 mm). Each end is convex, with a groove around the circumference just inside the widest part as it begins to taper to a waist. Beyond the waists, each end then flares again to a centre which has a rectangular perforation now filled with iron corrosion. There are two further grooves around the circumference here, one at each end of the perforation (and apparently cut by it). The iron corrosion is probably from a separate iron loop. The surface has a nice brown/green patina, but much has been lost and in these patches t…

Copper-alloy toggle. Each end is circular, 13 to 14 mm in diameter, and is decorated around the circumference with a groove. Each end then narrows to a waist, and in between is a swollen middle with an integral loop. The side of the swollen middle inside the loop is hollowed out to form a large oval depression; this is slightly uneven and looks as if it may have been slightly mis-cast, but its edges have filemarks showing that it was finished (or even deliberately made) after casting. There is a little orange corrosion, presumably from some nearby iron. Length 26 mm. Late Iron Age.

A copper-alloy toggle, 27mm in lenght. Each end is circular, and 13mm in diameter, and is decorated around the circumference with two grooves, 3mm apart. Each end then narrows to a waist, of 6mm in width, and inbetween is a swollen middle, measuring 11mm in diameter, with an integral loop. The side of the swollen middle inside the loop is hollowed out to form a large circular depression, in the centre of the base of this depression there is a small circular hole. There is some corrosion, especially at the ends of the toggle. This toggle is similar to a Late Lron Age La Tene type toggle…

A solid copper-alloy toggle, 25mm in lenght. Each end is circular, 10mm in diameter and narrows to a waist, circular in cross-section with a diameter of 8mm. Inbetween is a swollen middle 12mm in length with a circular-cross section measuring 10mm in diameter it has a transverse groove around its centre. The worn remains of a central vertical projection from the swollen middle are present, this projection is 6mm in length and 7mm in width. On either side, up the centre of it, the transverse groove as on the swollen middle continues. This toggle is likely to be late Iron Age in date, an…

Iron Age cylindrical belt-slide or toggle, very similar to an example from Fison Way, Thetford (Gregory 1992, 132, fig.116 no.15). This example has rectangular (rather than pointed oval) openings in the sides, and is open, bead-like, at both ends. A date in the later Iron Age (c.second century BC - first century AD) seems most likely). Length 18mm, diameter 9.5mm and 10.5mm at ends.

A copper-alloy toggle solid and almost cylindrical in shape measuring 38mm in length and 9mm in width. There is a D-shaped loop protruding from the centre of the top edge, which is flat, the loop has a circular perforation measuring 5.5mm in diameter. The date of this toggle is likely to be between the Iron Age and Medieval periods.

Copper-alloy toggle. Each end is sub-circular, one 11 mm and one 10 mm in diameter. Each end then narrows to a waist, and then swells out again to a long central lobe. This is nearly circular in section, but flattened on four sides to give a slightly squared shape measuring 10 x 12 mm. An oval hole runs through the central lobe on the shorter axis, tapering from both ends towards the centre. Pale green patina with some of the surface lost to corrosion. Late Iron Age, 1st century BC or AD. Length 23 mm.

Cylindrical body with slot through a central bulge. The ends are capped by circular lugs. Raised band around centre. A small circular pit to either side of the slot on one side of the toggle gives the impression of a pair of 'eyes'. These were probably once filled with enamel. Indeed, one of these pits retains a miniscule amount of red/orange enamel.
