Fragmentary cast copper alloy mount with worn opaque red glass inlay set into two small roundels placed either side of a central bifurcated stem. The closest parallel for this piece comprises a pair of complete objects, sometimes described as 'trace hooks' but more correctly 'harness hooks'(Jope 2000, 301), forming part of the Polden Hill hoard of horse gear (Brailsford 1975, pl 23,b). Here however, the decorative roundels were filled with domed ?coral studs (rather than glass) which were secured by small copper alloy rivets. The Polden Hill hoard is dated to the first century AD, and …

An incomplete Iron Age La Tene IBc brooch with a narrow, leaf-shaped bow bearing a plain pointed oval motif. A short foot recurves to meet the bow more or less straight on and terminates in a plain snouted disc. Only one and a half coils of the spring mechanism survive, though it is likely that the brooch was originally equipped with a four-coil mock spring with external chord. It falls within a small insular group of leaf-bow brooches designated Group 1Bc by Hull and Hawkes (1987, 107-110) and dated by them to the third and fourth centuries BC.(Two other brooches of similar form and d…

A heavy cast copper alloy fragment. The object consists of a solid circular-section projection, 28mm long x 18-19mm diameter, which tapers slightly towards a blunt rounded terminal. The other end is broken, but visible is a series of six parallel ridges, the upper two of which extend beyond the projection to give the apearance of a rim. Possibly a vessel fragment but far too little survives for any certainty.

The upper part of a bow brooch of La Tene D2 type; a boss-on-bow type brooch. The lower part of the bow, most of the spring and pin, and the catchplate are all missing. The prominent boss tapers into the bow at the upper end of which is a prominent rounded knop set between a pair of smaller grooved knops. Below this, on the outer part of the bow is a V-shaped moulding, which may be zoomorphic. The flat bow is bordered on either side by ridges and is bent and broken off, together with the catchplate. Projecting from the inside of the boss is one loop of the wire spring and pin.

A Middle Iron Age brooch with a wide bow, c9.5mm deep, hollowed out below. Above the flat projection for the hinged pin is a pair of knobs, possibly intended to be a false spring. At the catchplate end the bow narrows and curves around an aperture to end in a spherical knob which is attached to the bow. The stub of the pin appears to be of iron. The brooch is patinated dark green beneath a very thin iron-rich skin.

The bow and catchplate of an Iron Age brooch. The expanded hollow bow is worn smooth but there is incised ornament consisting of diagonal lines, or infilled triangles, at its upper and lower extremities. Below the bow is the catchplate and from this the foot bends around and terminates in a zoomorphic snouted terminal. The spring (probably four coil) and pin are both missing.
