A thick copper alloy coin, dished reverse but flat and worn obverse. Damaged. Probably a contemporary copy of a gold stater, some similarities to Catuvellauni/Trinovantian types but no close parallel identified in Van Arsdell or Hobbs. Oval flan 15.5mm x 18mm.
Philip de Jersey comments:
We have records of three other examples of this type. It appears to be a very base gold stater which accompanies one of the silver early pattern/horse types of the Iceni (VA 679).
The first example, apparently from Norfolk, was published by Simon Bean in Spink's Numismatic Circular for October …

An extremely rare uninscribed Scyphate Gallo Belgic Quarter Gold Stater. Similar to the Ingoldishthorpe type (Spinks ref. - 39A - 39B}. Also similar to the British variant O type (a derivative of the Gallo-Belgic D type) that is often attributed to the Durotriges (as in Hobbs catalogue ref. 415).

Copper-alloy Iron Age coin, probably a bronze core from a forgery of a gold stater. If so, the coin would have orginally been plated with gold. The coin is probably from the Trinovantes or Catuvellauni tribes. The coin is quite worn.
