A late Iron Age to early Roman cast copper-alloy toggle (c. 300 BC - c. 100 AD).
The toggle is symmetrical in form with a central bulbous body and a circular terminal at each end giving the toggle a 'hammer head' or 'baluster' shape. Each terminal is about 9.70mm in diameter and their ends are plain. The body is partly hollow as it has a sub-rectangular void at the centre with an over-arching loop on a longitudinal alignment. On the opposite side of the void, the body is slightly flattened and has a circular depression with the remains of a rivet. There is no trace of any inlaid mat…

An incomplete Late Iron Age to Early Roman looped toggle (c. 100 BC-AD 100).
The toggle survives in a poor condition.
This artefact has been cast in one piece and most of the loop is missing.
The main body is dumbbell-shaped and sub-circular in cross-section. The central block from which the loop extends has a partial circumferential groove. At the each side of the central block a short arm, circular in cross-section, extends to a dome-headed terminal
Extending out from the central block is the remains of a sub-triangular attachment loop. One part of the loop is much thicker than …

An incomplete Late Iron Age to Early Roman cast copper-alloy toggle (c. 100 BC-c. AD 100).
The head is sub-cylindrical throughout it width. The central segment has a groove at the top and the lower part extends to form a shaft for the loop which is missing. The end of the shaft bi-furcates where the start of the loop formed. It has a waist each side of the central segment and each terminal is circular when viewed from the sides.
This toggle is pitted and corroded overall and has patches of a shiny patina. A small area of patina on one of the terminals suggests that the end was flat…
