An incomplete copper-alloy late Iron Age to Roman birdlip brooch. All that remains of the upper bow/head is a bent oval section with a transverse groove on its upper surface providing little information about its original form. Below this a flattened disc-shaped section projects outwards from the outer face of the bow with a pointed crescentic section below it curving downwards and outwards. A probable fragment of an Iron Age or early Roman puddingstone quern. Only a small chunk, bearing breaks on all faces, survives. Puddingstone is distinctive conglomerate containing rounded red flint pebbles within a siliceous matrix, the main sources of which lie in Hertfordshire. Research carried out by Major in Essex suggests that puddingstone rotary querns were produced here from at least 10 AD until around 160 AD and a similar chronology seems likely in Cambridgeshire (2004, 2-4). An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age La Tene 1Ba brooch. Only the bow and the foot of the brooch survive. The bow is circular in cross-section and has a mid-arch. It narrows slightly towards the reverted foot, the outer face of which is moulded into a zoomorphic form consisting of a rounded 'head' followed by an upturned 'snout' divided into two by a transverse groove. The lower part of the foot has a deep groove across its outer face forming a small catch-plate. It survives in fair condition. The size of the arch suggests that this is a La Tene 1B rather than 1A brooch and the zoom…
