Fragment of a Hod Hill type copper alloy brooch. Only the head and bow survive. The fragment is misshapen and crudely formed. The head consists of a tube-like strip of metal, projecting slightly beyond each side of the bow. This is hollow and contains the remains of the axis bar, which would have held a hinged pin in place. There is a slot in the centre of the head where the pin would have sat. This is heavily worn, presumably through use. The pin is now missing. Three iron spear heads, thought to be of Iron Age date. One small head and two larger ones. All in fairly good condition - one with a small amount of wood in one socket. Treasure report from Rachel Seagar-Smith (Wessex Archaeology): A rectangular post-built structure F245 defined by at least six postholes was located in area A. A large beehive quernstone, made from medium grained quartz sandstone, typical of those found in the North Yorkshire area. The stone would have originally been sub-hemispherical in shape. However, two sides have become damaged leaving portions of the stone missing. A fragment of a copper alloy circular arm ring, probably of mid to late Iron Age date. The section comprises around 1/3 of a complete circular bracelet. It is sub-triangular in section. A complete copper alloy Egyptian statue of Osiris. He wears the double-feathered Atef crown with uraeus and holds the crook and flail in mummiform fashion. On the back are two attachment loops, one in the centre of the figure's shoulders and one just above the base (which has been bent upwards), with a further loop to the left of the base. These together with a tab below the base are probably to allow it to be mounted on a wooden base. Four small abraded shards of Iron Age earthenware vessels. The first two probably belong to fabric group 4 identified from material found during excavations in Somerset at Meare Village East (Coles 1987, p.184) and the second two to group 1 (ibid. p.183). 1. Length: 28.09mm, Width: 22.27mm, Thickness: 9.37mm, Weight: 6.68g Probably a body shard. The edges are very worn and well rounded. One surface is grey in colour and the other buff.
