Cast copper alloy cosmetic pestle of later Iron Age or early Roman date circa 50 BC - 200 AD. It is sub-rectangular in plan with both the terminals tapering and terminating with a break. The body of the pestle curves along its length; it also flares and tapers in thickness, with the thickest part being at the centre of the bow. The lower edge would have acted as the grinding edge of the pestle and would have fitted into a similar shaped mortar. The loop is missing. The object has a mid-green patina. Similar examples which can be found on the database are HESH-BDF153 and SF-EFB3C1.

Cast copper alloy centre-looped cosmetic pestle dating to the Iron Age. The object consists of a plain concentric rod with tapered ends. The rod is circular in cross-section. There is a small circular suspension loop which joins to the centre of the concave edge of the crescentic rod, by a short stem. A small moulded collar separates the stem and the loop. It has a smooth mid-green patina and shows some sign of wear on the tapered ends. These objects can be dated from the 1st century BC to the early 2nd century AD. A similar example can be found on p.118, fig 8 Britannia Vol XVI, 1985.
