An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester one piece brooch dating to the Late Iron Age to early Roman period. The brooch retains the bow, which is undecorated, the arms, the spring and a short section of the pin. The catchplate is incomplete but would have been of the openwork type, with incised and punched decoration around its outer edges on each side. A similar example is illustrated in Hattatt (2007) no. 251. These brooches date from c. AD 25-60.

A worn Iron Age gold plated copper alloy stater (contemporary copy) probably of Epaticcus. ABC 1343. The coin has lost most of its gold plating and therefore the identification is not 100% certain, however this issue seems to most closely resemble this copy. Epaticcus is usually identified as a brother of Cunobelin. He issued coins in the Berkshire-Hampshire-Wiltshire area, in about AD 30-45.

An incomplete copper alloy penannular brooch of Type D, late Iron Age to early-medieval date. The brooch is broadly penannular in plan (some distortion has occured) with a circular cross section. The terminals of the brooch are flattened although they do appear to have a slight upwards curve, which suggests that the would have had reflexed (returning) terminals. No pin survives. One section of the brooch frame is thinner and more worn than the rest. There is no decoration however if the now missing terminals had incised decoration then this would refine the dating; as it is, this plai…

An incomplete cast copper alloy Middle Iron Age (La Tène I) brooch, dating to the period c. 400-200 BC. Only the centre of the brooch survives, namely the humped bow, which has a D-shaped cross section. The bow is thickest in the centre of the hump; at the head end the casting narrows to a small circular cross section which would have continued into the coiled spring. At the opposing end, the casting flattens out and would have formed into the catchplate before curving back upwards so that the foot sat almost against the outer curve of the bow.
