A lead-alloy miniature hafted axe-head dating to the Roman period. The head is trapezoidal in plan and wedge-shaped in section. The butt end of the axe-head originally possessed a circular eye, but this area is now damaged. The object measures 17mm in length, 10mm in width and has a maximum thickness of 5mm. It weighs 3g. The axe appears to be of Kiernan's Type 2 (Kiernan 2009, 126) which comprises an axe-head with a separately-made haft. A fragment of a lead-alloy button and loop fastener, dating to the Late Iron Age or Roman period. The fragment comprises the attachment loop of the fastener. The loop is triangular with a triangular perforation. From the apex of the triangle, there extends a circular-section lug with a central circular perforation. The button, which would originally have been attached to this lug, is missing.The fastener has a length of 40mm, a maximum width of 21mm and a maximum thickness of 11mm. It has a weight of 11.2 grams.
