Circumstances of Discovery: Unclear. The torc was discovered somewhere near Diss, Norfolk in 1942. The finder is now deceased so it is now impossible to locate the exact find spot or the landowner. The torc remained in a bank vault until the present owner had it valued. The dealer recognised that the artefact may be ancient and reported it to the British Museum. The coins comprise three basic types of late Iron Age gold quarter stater. The insular types 'British G' and 'Insular Cf' (nos. 1 and 7 respectively) and the Continental types (nos. 2-6). Iron Age gold quarter stater. Eastern series (attributed to the Trinovantes), c. 80-50 BC. ABC (Cottam et al 2010) 2356; VA (Van Arsdell 1989) 1460-1. The reverse is a variant of the published type with a small spikey motif in the angle of the cross, replacing the common arcs. The central pellet is also replaced by a ring. John Sills has suggested that this is the second example struck from these dies - see CCI 01.0056 (SNC October 2007, no. HS3112).
