An incomplete copper-alloy probable cruciform bead from a beaded torc of Iron Age date, about 50 BC – AD 150. The bead is cruciform, or quatrefoil, with a flattened central panel through which is a central rectangular aperture. The aperture would have accommodated an iron rod onto which the beads would have been threaded. One lobe of the quatrefoil is missing from this example. Each arm terminates in convex ovate lobes. these appear to be undecorated. The metal has a grey green patina. An incomplete, copper alloy and iron artefact, possibly a linch pin terminal of Iron Age to Roman date, about 100 BC - AD 100. The copper alloy forms an outer shell which is then filled with a core of ferrous material. In form, the artefact consists of a semi-circular shaft ending in a large, hemispherical terminal. The flat edge is an old break, so it may originally have been circular in section. At the junction of shaft and hemisphere are two narrow, transverse ridges, now considerably abraded. The head is cast three dimensionally and is a chunky sub-triangular shape with a mainly circular cross-section. Copper alloy possible brooch fragment of Iron Age or Roman date, 300 BC - AD 410. The fragment consists of a sub-spherical knob on the top of an incomplete oval skirt or flange. The knop has a circular rough patch at the apex which may be a worn and patinated break. Projecting from the concave underside of the skirt, is another broken projection. The fragment is a short length of solid gold rod, of oval cross-section, and slightly curved. One flat end appears complete.; it is smooth, but is angled across the rod and is slightly concave. A lead possibly Spindle whorl of possible Iron Age date, about 800 BC - AD 50. If it is a spindle whorl, it is of Walton Rogers Form C1 which has no flat faces and curved sides. This example is sub-spherical. Alberti notes that globular (in which she includes spherical) whorls are uncommon. The central hole has a diameter of 8mm. This is consistent with Walton Roger's suggests range of 4-8mm for Iron Age and Roman whorls, and she also notes that spherical whorls cease to be used in the Roman period.
