Broad period: IRON AGE
County: East Riding of Yorkshire

An incomplete silver Iron Age coin; a North Eastern half unit attributed to the Corieltavi, dating from Hazelgrove Phase 6, about 50 - 20 BC. One side has been struck from a very worn die, resulting in one face being almost blank, showing just traces of a boar motif. The other face is also damaged and unclear, but probably depicts a celticised horse, facing right, with a rosette of eight pellets above. It is 10.1mm long, 7.6mm wide and 1.5mm thick. 0.36g. About half the coin is missing. Compare Rudd, 2010, Ancient British Coinage, page 95, number 1833.

A celtic fractional silver unit, probably a South Ferriby type of the Corieltauvi. (see Van Arsdell 887-1) or possibly a Hostidius type also of the Corieltauvi (see Van Arsdell 855-3 which has a similar but much less worn boar, or 857-3 which is similar except for the horses front legs and mane). There is a small chip out of the edge of the flan. The coin is 10.8mm in diameter and 1.1mm thick. It weighs 0.45gm. The coin dates from 55 - 10 BC.

An Iron Age silver coin; probably a fractional unit of the Corieltauvi, dating from 45 – 10BC, South Ferriby Type, Classification: Corieltauvian D. The coin has a diameter of 9.47mm and is 1.3mm thick. It weighs 0.27g, but one edge is damaged and missing. Probably Van Arsdell number 881-1, a fraction of 877-3 to which the design is more similar. The obverse die was used until almost completely obliterated, which is why the boar is not visible on the obverse.
