An incomplete cast copper-alloy probable pin head in the form of a male head of late Iron Age to early Roman date. At the top of the object the hair is represented with longitudinal incisions which run from horizontal semi circular band along the back of the head towards the hollow depression located at the bottom of the head. Below the semi circular band is a undecorated area which depicts the forehead. Below the forehead are two adjacent transverse semi circular incisions which depict eye brows (8.85mm wide). A ridge which depicts the nose runs from where the incisions for the eyebrow converge before terminating above the mouth (4.6mm in length). Either side of the nose is a broadly triangular recess which depicts the eyes. The mouth is depicted with a shallow horizontal groove (2.9mm wide). The head tapers towards the chin. Two D shaped ears are located either side of the face under the incisions which depict the hair (3.75mm in length, 2.3mm wide). The right ear is filled with iron corrosion. At the base of the head, located at the neck is an oval recess which is filled with mid to light green corrosion product (4.1mm wide, 2.95mm in length).
A pin head also probably representing a male is known from excavations in Colchester (Crummy 1983, 30 no. 503 fig. 31) and a parallel can be found on the database HAMP-1E6536. A similar depiction can be found on the database recorded as a figurine of Iron Age date: SOMDOR-DC9D32. The depiction of the head bears more similarities to the example from Dorset.

An incomplete copper-alloy pin of Middle Iron Age date, decorated in 'plastic style'. The pin has a large knobbed head, consisting of a spherical head with a slightly flattened base with multiple motif decoration. The main body of the head is broadly circular in plan and D shaped in cross section with multiple knops, projections and grooves. It is 17.15mm long and 16.95mm wide). On opposite faces are two broadly D shaped raised sections that join forming an oval raised platforms which due to the contours of the head appear to be higher at either end (12.25mm long, 2.9mm maximum height). The lower D shaped raised section curves in upon itself to form the base for a cylindrical knop (3.0mm high) with a circular projection at the tip. The tip of the top D shaped raised section on one face and the bottom of the lower D shaped raised section of the lower face expand into the adjacent face of the pin head to form the base for a further two cylindrical knops with circular projections at the top. At the top of the pin head are two incised vertical grooves that run from one side of the pin head to the other separating the two raised oval platforms. The areas of the pin head which do not have raised platforms or incisions have been decorated with extremely fine circular punches. The pin head is damaged in places and areas of decoration are missing. At the base of the pin head is a circular band which connects to a concave cylindrical projection before expanding for form a raised collar (6.9mm wide) which connects to the incomplete shaft. The incomplete shaft is circular in cross section (max 3.5mm thick) and is 41.25mm in length due to an old break.
The pin is damaged and corroded in places. The head has a mid grey patina, suggesting a higher tin content and the shaft has a mid green patina.

An incomplete bent copper-alloy Iron Age/Roman La Tène III, Nauheim derivative brooch dating to the 1st century AD. The spring is incomplete, one coil survives, the remainder of the spring and the pin are missing. The solid, plain bow is circular in cross-section. It rises up from the head giving the brooch a maximum height of c. 20.25mm. It curves through 90 degrees and travels gradually downwards towards the catchplate, curving as it reaches the catchplate which is bent towards the brooch. As it travels it tapers from a maximum width of 4.1mm at the head to 2.45mm at the catchplate. The catchplate is diminutive, sub-triangular, with a groove for the pin. This artefact has corroded to a variable mid-green colour.

An incomplete copper-alloy La Tène I Iron Age brooch (3rd-4th century BC). The brooch is broken at its head with the pin and the spring mechanism lost. From the head (2.5mm wide) the bow curves through ninety degrees, expanding as it does so. The bow reaches a maximum thickness of 6.55mm. It tapers into the foot which curves back on itself terminating in a circle which is decorated with a small central circular recess. The integral catchplate survives well to the right (when looking with the bow uppermost). The bow is decorated with main raised vertical ridge with two shallow vertical grooves running along the bows length either side. The central ridge is decorated with two lines of triangular recesses facing each other. The brooch can be compared with an example illustrated in Hattatt (2000, 288; ref. 4)

A fragment from a cast copper-alloy knobbed bracelet (bangle or armlet) probably dating from the late Hallstatt period to the late Iron Age (c. 800 BC - 43 AD). The bracelet consists of a curved rod formed of four globular 'beads' or knops (c. 6.3mm thick) with rounded ridged collars (c. 4.65mm thick). Two of the collars have two ridges, the last extant collar has three. One ridge from a collar survives at either end before the old breaks. The rod is sub-circular in cross section. The reverse is plain and flat at its centre; it bevels towards the sides. The bracelet appears to have a high tin content, there are mid-green patches of corrosion product and pitting on the beads and lower surface.
A parallel can be found illustrated in Cunliffe (1998, 61; ref. 53); cf. also SUSS-26A497 on this database

A cast copper-alloy ring of probable late Iron Age to Roman date. The ring is semi-circular in cross-section, with a flat internal surface. It is decorated externally with a raised median band. The ring is uneven; it thickens in sections (min 6.5mm, max 7.2mm) and expands in hoop width (min 3.8mm, max 5.7mm). Consequently this gives the impression that the hole is off centre. The apparently deliberate difference between the two sides may suggest this is a harness loop rather than a bead. The variable grey/green patina with slight pitting and the decoration perhaps support a late Iron Age/early Roman date range, although an earlier or later date ought not to be ruled out. For similar examples see Jackson (1990, 156).

A worn and incomplete Late Iron Age to Roman copper-alloy Rosette brooch of complex riveted type (c. 25 - c. 65 AD). It is missing parts of the central disc, the catch-plate, head and sprung pin due to old breaks. Emerging at a right angle and extending forwards from the missing spring case is a short and integrally cast bow that is incomplete and lost any detailed decoration due to the poor survival of the object. Beneath the bow is the remains of the rosette. This is formed from two thin sheets of copper-alloy that were probably originally circular in shape but are now mostly incomplete due to old, abraded breaks. Beneath the rosette is a flat rectangular foot held in place by the same central rivet that pierces the rosette and which has a flattened rectangular head on the lower surface of the foot. The upper surface of the foot has three sets of molded double vertical grooves and fluted decoration and has abraded edges. On the lower surface of the foot the catch-plate remains in a damaged form due to old breaks and only partially remains. The copper alloy has a green patina of varying colour, consisting of a dark green patina on the majority of the artefact apart from the thin sheets of copper-alloy which has a lighter green patina. Similar examples can be found in Hattatt (2000, 309).

An one-piece example, the head has suffered considerable damage with the wings, rearward hook and spring surviving only in very small parts. The brooch decreases from a thickness of 11.45mm at the head to 4mm at the bow. At the catchplate end the brooch tapers to a sharp point. The catchplate itself is highly abraded. The artefact has corroded to a red-brown colour.Daniel Pett50.157-1.387341HAMP-282552184997Colchester1one-pieceROMANBROOCHSU4333finds-1849971125.38HAMP-27F571Incomplete25x41218images/rhenry/1142909001468282520125F42007-06-27T16:29:22ZCertainx1399212007-04-20T23:00:00Z02151.094703IRON AGECopper alloy41421IA1Circa16http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/IRON AGEWith finderCertainCivil Parish2022-07-14T07:07:51.187ZHampshire1CountyStruck or hammered1CertainLateMetal detectorHAMP-E42963goldstater.jpg177652006From finder1175791IA2.8DistrictCertain449810HAMP1759617.8-40Botleyx139925.3Eastleigh10892Stater (gold)2011-02-24T12:18:32ZReturned to finderSouth EastCircaAn Iron Age gold stater of the early uninscribed 'QA' / 'Remi' type (mid 1st century BC).
