An incomplete bent copper-alloy Iron Age/Roman La Tène III, Nauheim derivative brooch dating to the 1st century AD. The spring is incomplete, one coil survives, the remainder of the spring and the pin are missing. The solid, plain bow is circular in cross-section. It rises up from the head giving the brooch a maximum height of c. 20.25mm. It curves through 90 degrees and travels gradually downwards towards the catchplate, curving as it reaches the catchplate which is bent towards the brooch. As it travels it tapers from a maximum width of 4.1mm at the head to 2.45mm at the catchplate…

A fragment from a cast copper-alloy knobbed bracelet (bangle or armlet) probably dating from the late Hallstatt period to the late Iron Age (c. 800 BC - 43 AD). The bracelet consists of a curved rod formed of four globular 'beads' or knops (c. 6.3mm thick) with rounded ridged collars (c. 4.65mm thick). Two of the collars have two ridges, the last extant collar has three. One ridge from a collar survives at either end before the old breaks. The rod is sub-circular in cross section. The reverse is plain and flat at its centre; it bevels towards the sides. The bracelet appears to have a …

Object type: RING
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper-alloy ring of probable late Iron Age to Roman date. The ring is semi-circular in cross-section, with a flat internal surface. It is decorated externally with a raised median band. The ring is uneven; it thickens in sections (min 6.5mm, max 7.2mm) and expands in hoop width (min 3.8mm, max 5.7mm). Consequently this gives the impression that the hole is off centre. The apparently deliberate difference between the two sides may suggest this is a harness loop rather than a bead. The variable grey/green patina with slight pitting and the decoration perhaps support a late Iron …

A worn and incomplete Late Iron Age to Roman copper-alloy Rosette brooch of complex riveted type (c. 25 - c. 65 AD). It is missing parts of the central disc, the catch-plate, head and sprung pin due to old breaks. Emerging at a right angle and extending forwards from the missing spring case is a short and integrally cast bow that is incomplete and lost any detailed decoration due to the poor survival of the object. Beneath the bow is the remains of the rosette. This is formed from two thin sheets of copper-alloy that were probably originally circular in shape but are now mostly incomp…
