The coins:
All but 3 of the 933 coins in the hoard are British Iron Age gold coins of a single type. This is an uninscribed Eastern (North Thames) British Iron Age gold stater of ‘Whaddon Chase’ type ABC 2433, or rather a distinct group of coins of this type with a more easterly distribution identifiable by the dies used (Sills’ ‘Whaddon East’ type (Sills 2017 p.439)). Discussion: The coin was found at the site of a previous hoard (Great Bromley Hoard IARCH-67C78D) find which went through the treasure process (Treasure case tracking number: 2017T569) and is therefore a possible hoard addendum.

Coin 2 (B): A Gallo-Belgic imported Gold Boat Tree quarter stater (ABC 40, Gallo-Belgic DC). This design of quarter stater is attributed to the Ambiani or Morini people and struck in about 80-60 BC.
The obverse of the coin has the design known as men in a boat. The reverse is heavily dished with a wavy horizontal line running from left to right and a tree design above. The coin seems to have been clipped and has straight edges rather than being circular.

Description: A fragment of a possibly Gold or Silver Iron Age Stater. The identifiable parts of the coin can be attributed to Ancient British Coins type 2326 Clacton original dating to 80-50BC.
Dimensions: The fragment measure 19.1mm by 11.7mm and weighs 1.9g.
Discussion: The broken edges show a core that is not consistent with a precious metal. It is possible that this fragment may be a contemporary copy. A similar example can be found at ESS-7B09C4. Coin 1 (A): A Gallo-Belgic imported Gold Boat Tree quarter stater (ABC 40, Gallo-Belgic DC). This design of quarter stater is attributed to the Ambiani or Morini people and struck in about 80-60 BC.
The obverse of the coin has the design known as men in a boat with eight crosses running from the bottom flan and to the right edge. The reverse is slightly dished with two horizontal ridges. The lower one having a slight wave. The upper ridge is pierced by the tree design.
Dimensions: 10.7mm in diameter and weighs 1.44g.
