A fragment of probable Iron age torc. Description: A short length of thick gold alloy wire, which gently curves towards one end. It has been cut at both ends using a chisel or similar implement. The surface shows evidence of hammering and a few light scratches. Measurements: length: 16.4mm diameter: 3.2mm weight: 2.15g Discussion: The wire is facetted in places, suggesting it was hammered out from a square-section piece to achieve a rounder cross-section.
